Is university right for you?
I have worked in higher education for 15 years. I have taught, mentored, and supervised countless former scholars who, having been released at the age of 18, enrolled in a university. I have seen, first-hand, a recurring set of problems. First, many of these young males have received a poor education at their professional football clubs and have ‘copied and pasted’ their way through a B-Tec. Second, because of the all-encompassing nature of being a scholar, they sacrifice academic development over many years to become the best footballers they can be. Third, despite this, these young males are increasingly targeted by universities who, as I write, are struggling financially and need to recruit as many students as they can. Finally, because of the above, each year, a set of former scholars struggle to transition into higher education, failing modules, feeling overwhelmed and, generally, not being sure if they had made the right decision. On average, students leave university with around £47,000 worth of debt. This course provides a valuable foundation for former scholars and their parents to make an informed decision as to whether university is right for them. I outline the context of higher education, giving you the inside story of why universities want you or your son. I provide frameworks and tasks that develop your understanding of whether you should or should not go to university. As a bonus, everyone who signs up for this course can opt into a FREE 30-minute online Q&A with me. University can be a great option, but it can also be the wrong one. This course will help you decide what is right for you or your child.
